The Commandant Lieutenant General Bobby Mathews is a second generation Army Officer. He joined NDA in Jan 1975 and was commissioned into 2 KUMAON (BERAR) in Dec 1978. He has had the privilege of Commanding 2 Kumaon (BERAR) in Op HIFAZAT (Manipur) from 1998 to 2001.
He is a graduate of the DSSC, Higher Comd (Air) and the prestigious NDC Course. He has also been awarded M.Phil in Strategic Studies from the Madras University.
The Gen Offr has held numerous important Command, Staff and Instructional appts including Instr Cl 'C' at IMA, Dehradun, Instr Cl 'A' at Inf School, Mhow, BM of a Mtn Bde, Col GS of an Inf Div and DS at the DSSC, Wellington. He has commanded a Mtn Bde in the Eastern Sector and was Cdr, Mumbai Sub Area during the Mumbai Terror Attack in Nov 2008. He has also held the appt of DDG PS at Army HQ. As a GOC, he commanded the Striking Lion Division in the Eastern Theatre. He was the Dy Comdt & CI of IMA wef Dec 2012 before assuming the appt of Media Advisor to the Chief of Army Staff (ADGPI) in Aug 2013. The Gen Offr commanded the Konark Corps the only Desert Corps wef 01 Sep 14 to 08 Oct 15.
The Gen has been awarded the COAS Commendation twice in 2005 and 2008, the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2013, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2014 and bar to AVSM in 2016.
The Comdt with his vast and varied experience especially in PCTAs has brought about extensive changes in the training, habitat and infrastructure of OTA, Chennai.
The Gen Offr is a keen sportsman and is fond of Tennis, Golf and Riding.
